This is the moment a gunman threw a revolver into a neighbour’s garden after being confronted by our firearms officers.

Nigel Collins was trying to flee from his house but met with a waiting firearms team and tossed the Emporio Armani man bag in a moment of desperation.

He claimed the bag contained a small amount of cannabis, but when we recovered it a short time later, we found a silver revolver with three bullets in the chamber, and a further three in a white latex glove.

The early morning raid on 8 September this year was the culmination of an investigation by the Regional Organised Crime Unit for the West Midlands (ROCUWM).

Police received intelligence that Collins, who was on licence at the time after being jailed for nine years in 2014 for robbery, was linked to firearms.

He was arrested at the scene, on Tew Park Road in Winson Green, and went on to admit possession of the firearm and ammunition.

The 33-year-old has now been jailed for five years and four months.

Det Insp Martin Brown, from ROCUWM, said: “Again this case shows the power of bodyworn video. It gave us irrefutable evidence linking him to the gun, and he sat in silence when we showed him the footage during interview.”

ROCUWM is made up of officers from forces around the entire Midland region, who target and disrupt serious and organised crime across the area.
