From the 7-9th September 2021, the West Midlands Regional Cyber Crime Unit (WMRCCU) hosted a stand at the National Cyber Security Show.  Joined by Protect Officers from our regions police force cyber teams as well, it was also the debut of two of our new Cyber Crime Volunteers and our two new Cyber Crime Interns, who all shined and proved valuable assets throughout the event.

The National Cyber Security Show ran alongside The Security Event, The Fire Safety Event, The Facilities Event, The Health & Safety Event and The Emergency Services Show. Collectively known as ‘The Safety & Security Series’ that welcomed 900+ exhibiting businesses and an expected 28,000+ visitors.

National Cyber Security Show event director Tristan Norman described the National Cyber Security Show as a, “UK-focused event delivering practical cyber security advice for business owners and senior leadership teams looking to raise their cyber security protection. Our aim is to educate companies that have limited knowledge of the cyber threat landscape and ensure they have the right training and solutions needed to stop attackers gaining access to their systems.”

Over the course of three days, the Cyber team engaged with hundreds of individuals, business owners and industry experts and were able to educate them on what free services the WMRCCU and the wider Team Cyber UK network can offer. The partnerships and opportunities the team created from the event are endless and we hope they’ll have a real impact on protecting businesses and organisations in the region from cyber crime and preparing them for if and when a cyber incident does occur.

On a few of the days, we were lucky enough to have visits from approx. 40 young people from three of our local Dudley & Wolverhampton Police Cadet groups. Our Cyber Choices Officers have big plans to work with the Police Cadets groups over the next 12 months, so it was amazing to speak to such a positive and inspiring group of young people.

The WMRCCU had a fantastic week and want to thank our staff, the force cyber staff and volunteers for their support. We’re also grateful for all of those event attendees that visited us and made it such a worthwhile event!
